| Client : | Sniep |
| Project : | Thermal desorption treatment of 124,900 tons of PAH and mineral oil contaminated soil |
| Date : | January 2006 and lasted until February 2007 |
| Quantity : | 124,900 tons |
Site History:
The location Sniep in Diemen was an island made around 1640 and used until 1895 mainly as a place for shipyards. From 1900 of on it was used for heavier industry like a machinefactory, a tarproduction company a margarine- and mustardproduction facility, and as a local dumpsite. The soil consisted of madeground, made out of heavy clay and peat-soil.
The project was won through a tender and started in January 2006 and lasted until February 2007.
Treatment objectives::
The soils to be treated showed PAH concentrations of larger than 700 mg/kg.dm with maximum recorded levels of 5,000 mg/kg.dm, and with levels of mineral oil between 5,000 and 10,000 mg/kg.dm. The decontaminations levels had to be within the strict limits of category 1 soil according the Dutch Building Material Decree, in this case for PAH <40 mg/kg.dm and for mineral oil <100 mg/kg.dm. The achieved level of decontamination for PAH was <5 mg/kg.dm and for mineral oil <10 mg/kg.dm. After treatment the cleaned soil was re-used in a civil work in the Netherlands.
Equipement:
The treatment was carried out off-site at the fixed Botlek facility.
