Client : Olster
Project : Thermal desorption treatment of 71,600 tons of PAH contaminated soil
Date : July 2006 until December 2006
Quantity : 71,600 tons

Site History:

The location Olasfa (Olster asfalt fabriek) belonged to a former asphalt production company. The site had to be cleaned before becoming a city area. The soil consisted mainly of madeground, made out of sand, clay and peat-soil.

The project was won through a tender and started in July 2006 and lasted until December 2006.

All material was transported by ship from the Olasfa site in Olst to the Botlek fixed facility.

Treatment objectives::

The soils to be treated showed average PAH concentrations of 972 mg/kg.dm with a naftalene average of 500 mg/kg.dm. The decontaminations levels had to be within the strict limits of category 1 soil according the Dutch Building Material Decree, in this case for PAH <40 mg/kg.dm. The achieved level of decontamination for PAH was <5 mg/kg.dm. After treatment the cleaned soil was re-used in a civil work in the Netherlands.

Equipement:

The treatment was carried out off-site at the fixed Botlek facility.
