The site of the Oslo Varemesse (Exhibition hall) was a former creosote plant, and needed extensive treatment before the construction could start. The clean-up project was contracted to JV Selmer/Skanska - Deconterra, a Norwegian consortium. The consortium did all the excavation works, as well as the soil washing treatment on site. Deep Green was contracted for the thermal desorption part of the contract for PAH contaminated soil.
Soil to treat and clean-up objectives :
The soil to treat was mainly heavy clay (80% < 63µ) and was found to be very wet (due to heavy rainfall during the first half of the project period). The contamination levels varied from 2,000 up to 20,000 ppm in total PAH. Clean-up levels were set at 2 ppm total PAH.t.
Equipement:
The project started with a DRAGON 15 unit until May 2001. Early May, a second unit, DRAGON 35, was added to finish the project on time. Stack tests were performed on both units on site. Both units were equipped with continuous emissions monitoring.
