Client : Sir Rogersons Quay
Project : Thermal desorption treatment of 120,000 tons of PAH, MAH, mineral oil and cyanide contaminated soil
Date : July 2000 and lasted until July 2002
Quantity : 120,000 tons

Site History:

The location Sir Rogersons Quay in Dublin was situated in an urban area. In the past this site was used by a gaswork. The site, situated at the waterside and surrounded by urban dwellings, had to be cleaned because of the renewed use as a city area. The soil consisted mainly of madeground, made out of sand and clay.

The project was won through a tender in cooperation with DEC Environmental Contractors and started in July 2000 and lasted until July 2002.

All material was transported by coasters from the Sir Rogersons Quay site in Dublin to the Botlek fixed facility.

Treatment objectives::

The soils to be treated were contaminated with mono and poly aromatic hydrocarbons, mineral oil and cyanide. The decontaminations levels had to be within the strict limits of category 1 soil according the Dutch Building Material Decree (bouwstoffenbesluit). After treatment the cleaned soil was re-used in a civil work in the Netherlands.

Equipement:

The treatment was carried out off-site at the fixed Botlek facility.
