| Project : | Thermal desorption of highly PAH contaminated and cyanide contaminated soils thanks to a THERMOPILE installation |
| Date : | September 2004 |
Bail Industrie, exclusive operator for the environmental treatment of the old sites of the Arcelor Group, manages the operations of decontamination of the old dump of Neuves-Maisons, formerly exploited by Usinor. Deep Green was selected for the on-site thermal desorption treatment of 2000 tons of highly contaminated soils by PAH, THP, tar and CN.
Clean-up goals:
The soils to be treated held average concentrations in THP of about 70 000 ppm, in PAH of 60 000 ppm; in CN of 400 ppm. The levels of decontamination were fixed under 40 ppm. 90% of the clean soils are under the clean-up target after treatment.
Equipement:
The project was realized with a THERMOPILE installation, according to
the DRIRE's prescriptions. Stack tests were regularly performed. The unit
is equipped with Continuous Emissions Monitoring systems.;The energy balance
of this operation is efficient, thanks to the re-use of gases at exit of
post-combustion for the soil heating, and thanks to correct use of the energy
contained in the contaminated soils.
The environmental assessment is advantageously influenced by emissions reduction
and a lower power consumption.
