Deep Green is committed to providing a safe work environment for all its employees. Through the inclusion of health and safety issues on the agendas of operations meetings, Deep Green's upper management demonstrates consistent and sustained vision in being both involved and supportive of health and safety goals and objectives. This "leadership-by-example" approach ensures continuous improvement of the overall Deep Green health and safety effort.
Deep Green employees at all levels of the organization are encouraged to participate in health and safety program development and implementation. By actively auditing operations, reviewing work practices, and conducting training, employee involvement is fostered throughout the company.
Deep Green employees are directed to discontinue any personal activities or the activities of fellow employees, which present potentially serious health or safety hazards to themselves or others. All members of the organization have access to adequate budgets and funding to meet all of the regulatory and procedural requirements to complete their jobs/tasks in a safe and healthful manner. In addition, employees are provided with the equipment and training appropriate to carry out their responsibilities with respect to the size of their facility and/or the degree of hazard or exposure posed by associated processes, projects or operations. Consistent with contractual obligations, Deep Green will also ensure, to the extent feasible, the protection of subcontractor employees.
Deep Green further this policy by conducting regular surveys including documented comprehensive workplace hazard evaluations by health and safety professionals. Corrective actions recommended pursuant to these assessments are documented and hazard inventories are updated periodically. Qualified company personnel additionally perform regularly scheduled audits of compliance program elements. Observations of potentially hazardous conditions made during these audits are analyzed to evaluate overall program effectiveness and progress. Responses to audits and performance evaluations are made in writing by cognizant operations management staff members who provide continuing proactive support in identifying and self-correcting work place health and safety hazards at their locations.
Hazard analysis is integral to the design, development, implementation and modification of processes and work practices including the pre-planning of remedial construction projects. Engineering controls are always given precedence over personal protective equipment to abate hazardous conditions. Should a loss-producing accident or "near miss" incident occur, it is investigated by supervisors and/or trained employees to determine the "root causes" in an effort to prevent a recurrence. Upon completion of the accident investigation process, the pertinent information gained is communicated to all levels of management and the work force. On a yearly basis, the Corporate Director of Health and Safety analyzes the injury and illness data and identifies any adverse trends requiring mitigative action by affected Deep Green operating units.
All Deep Green operating units have an emergency response plan implemented to ensure that employees know what actions to take in the event of an identified emergency at their facility. Emergency plans are periodically reviewed and facilities are annually inspected by the local fire department to verify compliance with the Life Safety Code. In addition, emergency response plans are updated contingent on changing site conditions and critiques are conducted after every significant incident involving plan activation. Health and safety training has been provided by qualified instructors to Deep Green employees who are potentially exposed to work place hazards. This training is regularly scheduled, assessed and documented. Training covers all applicable topics and situations that may affect office and field support personnel (including occupational illnesses) in a site-specific manner. Employee input is actively solicited in preparing site-specific programs with an emphasis placed on hazard recognition and correction. Training records are kept on a database that allows for the proper scheduling of initial training, periodic re-training, make-up training and modifications to training schedules. Results of the post-instruction examination administered upon completion of the training are also maintained and evaluated for each employee to verify training effectiveness.
By exercising top down leadership, motivating and training our employees to work safely, identifying and correcting work place hazards, investigating all accidents and pre-planning safety into all our projects and operations, Deep Green will remain a health and safety leader well into the future.
